Southern Regional Consultation on Climate Action in India

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India has organized for a Southern Regional Consultation meeting on Climate Action in India at Hotel Taj coramandal during 29 th and 30 th April 2019. The main objectives of the meeting was to revise Tamil Nadu State Action Plan for Climate Change (TNSAPCC) and generating new ideas under National Adaptation Fund (NAPCC) and Green Corps Fund. The representatives from all the southern states and Union Territories Viz., Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, AP, Kerala, Telengana, Puduchery and Lakshadeep were participated. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Ravishankar Prasad, Additional Secretary MoEF&CC, Government of India and Thiru. Shambhu Kalolikar. I.A.S., Principal Secretary, E&F, Government of Tamil Nadu. The Principal Secretary, E&F, Government of Tamil Nadu delivered the inaugural address emphasising the conservation of water resources and highlighted the changes in the water cycle as a result of Climate change through extreme events. He also stressed on developing effective country-driven climate change adaptation reflecting the importance of water management in reducing vulnerability and building climate resilience. The Additional Chief Secretary/ Commissioner of Revenue Administration, State Relief Commissioner to Government of Tamil Nadu, Thiru K. Sathyagopal., I.A.S., gave a special invited talk on Climate Resilient Agriculture - Water Conserving Root Zone Irrigation Technique to grow trees / climbers faster with less water. The Director Department of Environment, Dr. Jayanthi.M., I.F.S. gave presentation on Best Practices in Tamil Nadu, State Action Plan on Climate Change and State Level Initiatives.
